Dynamics Webinar Learning Objectives:

This advanced webinar series will present participants with the basic principles of how dynamic analysis of pumping machinery is determined to mitigate risks. The webinar will also detail the Dynamics of Pumping Machinery guideline and methods to utilize the document to identify and specify the correct level of dynamic analysis and ensure stability of pumping machinery design. Attendees will also become familiar with key concepts and terminology as applied to Level 2 Rotodynamic pump dynamic analysis.

Learning Objectives:


Session 1:

  • Understand and apply the basic principles and the necessity for Dynamic Analysis of Pumping Machinery
  • Explain how the level of analysis is selected to mitigate risk at justifiable cost
  • Understand the types of dynamic analysis that are performed on pump installation types


Session 2:

  • Understand and apply the ANSI/HI Pump Guideline for the Dynamics of Pumping Machinery
  • Identify and specify the correct level of dynamic analysis and thereby ensure stability of pumping machinery design


Session 3:

  • Understand key concepts and terminology as applied to Level 2 rotodynamic pump dynamic analysis
  • Apply Level 2 “moderate capability” analytical tools and techniques to identify potential problems in higher risk situations more accurately than Level 1 manual methods
  • Understand guidelines for applying Level 2 computer-based tools in various applications
  • Recall distinguishing factors that should be considered in shaft lateral rotodynamic and torsional analysis, versus dynamics analysis of stationary structures and systems
  • Understand the additional capabilities are required to perform Level 2 analyses, both where the methodologies are an extension of Level 1 analysis, and where the methodologies entail entirely new content


Session 4:

  • Understand key concepts and terminology as applied to Level 3 rotodynamic pump dynamic analysis
  • Apply Level 3 "high fidelity” analytical tools and techniques to identify potential problems in very high risk situations more accurately than Level 1 manual methods or Level 2 intermediate computer-based methods
  • Understand guidelines for applying Level 3 computer-based tools for various pump types and in various applications
  • Provide detail on distinguishing factors that should be considered in shaft lateral rotodynamic and torsional analysis, versus dynamics analysis of stationary structures and systems, and the highest fidelity evaluation of these factors
  • Understand the additional capabilities that are required to perform Level 3 analyses, both where the methodologies are an extension of Level 1 and Level 2 analysis, and where the methodologies entail entirely new content
