This is the first in a 4-part webinar series based on the Hydraulic Institute guidebook, Mechanical Seals for Pumps: Application Guidelines which was published in cooperation with the Fluid Sealing Association. It is strongly recommended that you purchase a copy of the book to support and enhance the educational content of the webinar.  Section 1 explains how a mechanical seal works and gives an overview of the most common seal types. The objectives are to give the student a good understanding of how leakage, friction and wear of the materials interact and why many different seal types are used in pumps, agitators and compressors. This on-demand webinar will last approximately 1 hour, including Q&A. Audio broadcast will be via your computer speakers or teleconference bridge.
