ANSI/HI 9.6.6 Rotodynamic Pumps for Pump Piping is a NEW ANSI/HI standard and a companion to ANSI/HI 9.8, Pump Intake Design.
ANSI/HI 9.6.6 applies to rotodynamic pump types in all applications, and details required and recommended practices for pump piping. Important and critical to your use of rotodynamic pumps: the Standard explains the most current recommended procedures that should be followed in order to reduce the risk of a pump’s failure to perform due to interaction with the system. (Any piping integral to the pump unit, such as auxiliary or lubricant piping, is not included.) Content sampling:
- Effects and interactions of inlet/outlet piping on pump performance
- How suction piping can affect the net positive suction head available and its influence on cavitation
- How well-designed pumping systems affect uniform velocity distribution / symmetric flow to the suction pump to achieve maximum performance and reliability
- How poorly designed suction piping can lead to noisy operation, random axial load oscillations, premature bearing or seal failure, cavitation damage to the impeller and inlet portions of the casing … and more
The new Standard is intended for use as a complement to ANSI/HI 9.8 Pump Intake Design. To eliminate the possibility of overlapping or conflicting content, this document is applicable as follows:
- All piping downstream and upstream from the pump;
- Upstream from the pump, this document ceases to be applicable when the pipe enters a tank, vessel, or other intake structure. Refer to ANSI/HI 9.8 for intakes other than piping
