Description

Upon completion of this webinar a PDH Certificate will be provided for 1 PDH Credit

Water hammer is a pressure surge in a piping system due to a sudden change in flow.  It can occur when the power to a driver is lost, air is expelled from a system, a valve closes too quickly, or a check valve slams shut.  This webinar will review what can happen as a result of the water hammer, some basic physics, and ways to account for it in your pumping system design.

The following topics will be covered in the webinar:

  • Water Hammer Overview
    Accidents
Physics - Four Stages of Water Hammer
    Joukowsky Equation
    Communication Time
    Different Types of Waterhammer
    Brief Discussion of Fundamental Equations

  • Pulsation Dampeners
General principal of operation of a pulsation dampener
Types of Dampeners and their Pros/Cons
    Configurations and their Pros/Cons
Technical questions answered by water hammer analysis

  • Effects of water hammer on pumps and valves

  • Transient Cavitation

  • Surge Suppression
Types of Piping and Wave Speed
    Changing Component Behavior
    Surge Relief Valves
    Vacuum Breaker Valves
    Surge Vessels

  • Case Studies
Time: approximately 60 minute run time
