Description

TOPIC: This webinar is a continuation of the Hydraulic Institute’s water hammer webinar series and encompasses three parts. The first being a review of the physics behind surge including the causes and key equations for quantifying. The second portion will guide those in attendance on when and how to evaluate a system for surge using examples from computer surge modeling.

In all, an overview of the following topics will be reviewed: Joukowsky Equation, wave speed, communication time, high frequency monitoring, computer modeling including a brief discussion on the differences between Method of Characteristics (MOC) and Wave Characteristics Method (WCM), low vs high pressure transients, system design changes and suppression equipment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Surge physics and common equations
  • Evaluation of surge – the when and how
  • Options for mitigating surge
    • System design changes
    • Surge suppression equipment

AUDIENCE:
This presentation is ideal for those who are looking to learn about surge mitigation solutions and which options are more or less suitable for a particular type of surge.

DURATION: The webinar will last approximately 45 minutes with 15 minutes allowed for Q&A with the instructor.
