WHAT ARE SECURE PDFs?

ANSI/HI Pump Standards are encrypted for security purposes.  They are sold as a single-user license and may not be installed in a shared environment such as a network server or corporate Intranet.  They are intended for use by one individual.  If you have any questions about the license agreement, a copy is available at www.pumps.org/CDeula.pdf

The files are available on CD-ROM and require either Adobe® Acrobat® or Adobe® Reader® to view.  Once installed, they require a one-time authorization in order to open.  Authorization requires the download and installation of an Adobe-approved plug-in by FileOpen Systems, Inc.  Detailed instructions explaining the download and authorization procedure are provided upon purchase.  You must be logged on to the Internet during the authorization.  Once authorized, Internet access is not required in order to access the file.  Permissions allow you to print and annotate the files.

Each set of standards has a unique 10-character Order ID.  Your Order ID will be affixed to the CD jacket when you first purchase the full set of standards on CD..  It is very important that you keep your Order ID in a safe place because it will be needed if you should ever want apply upgrades or move the standards to another computer.

TRANSFERRING ANSI/HI PUMP STANDARDS VERSION 3.1 (UPGRADE) TO ANOTHER COMPUTER:

Transferring the standards from one computer to another is a multiple-step process - (1) Unauthorize, (2) Uninstall, (3) Install/Authorize prior version(s), (4) Upgrade/Authorize Version 3.1.  The Unauthorize and Uninstall steps are performed on the "old" computer and the Install/Authorize and Upgrade/Authorize steps are performed on the "new" computer. If the old computer is not accessible you will need to contact HI Technical Support at Publications@Pumps.org or 973.267.9700 ext 118 for assistance.

Steps (1), (2) and (4) will be the same for all users. Step (3) will vary depending on whether your Version 3.0 was a full install or an upgrade from a previous version. If your Version 3.0 was a full install you will simply install Version 3.0 on your new computer then apply the Version 3.1 upgrade. If your Version 3.0 was an upgrade from an earlier version you will first install your earliest full version on your new computer then apply the subsequent version upgrades in order.

(1) Unauthorize:

  1. While logged in to the old computer, from the program menu, select Start>Program Files>Hydraulic Institute>Unauthorize HI Standards.
  2. Enter your Order ID and click "Unauthorize".
  3. A pdf opens and confirms the removal of the authorization.

(2)  Uninstall:

  1. Still logged in to the old computer, from the program menu, select Start>Program Files>Hydraulic Institute>Uninstall HI Standards
  2. The program will ask you to confirm your intention to uninstall and, if you agree, will remove the program group and icons from your Program Manager/Start Menu and delete the Hydraulic Institute folder from your hard disk.

Note: If you have run the Uninstaller and the Hydraulic Institute directory has not been removed this is because either:

    • There were items in the folder not put there by the HI Standards installation process, or
    • You do not have and the uninstall program cannot create the directory C:\TEMP, which is required by the Uninstaller.

In either case you can always manually delete the Hydraulic Institute folder.
